A family history, rooted on St-Laurent Blvd.

In 1958, Harry and Libby Toulch opened a small optometry office on Saint-Laurent Boulevard. Three generations later, it remains a family practice, proudly serving the Montreal community on the historic Main, where it all began.

The questions we get on the phone

Do I need an appointment for an eye exam?

Not necessarily. We intentionally keep part of our schedule open for walk-ins and eye emergencies at 3750 Saint-Laurent Boulevard. If you plan to walk in, please call us first at (514) 849-1433 so we can confirm availability and let you know the expected wait. If you prefer a specific day or time, we recommend booking an appointment.

How much does an eye exam cost, and what does RAMQ cover?

In Quebec, RAMQ covers eye exams for children under 18, adults 65 and over, and recipients of social assistance (bien-être social). For adults aged 18 to 64, the exam is not covered by RAMQ but is often reimbursed in full or in part by private or group insurance. Call us for our current fees, and we will be happy to confirm what applies to your situation.

Are my children's glasses covered?

Through the RAMQ's See Better to Succeed program, children under 18 are eligible for a $300 reimbursement toward prescription glasses or contact lenses every two years. Eye exams for children are also covered by RAMQ. Simply bring your child's RAMQ card, and our team will gladly help you complete the reimbursement form.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes. We offer direct billing through TELUS Health eClaims to most major insurers, including Canada Life, Manulife, Desjardins Insurance, iA Financial Group, Beneva, Equitable Life, ClaimSecure, GroupHEALTH and Johnston Group, as well as directly with Sun Life. Simply bring your insurance card, and we will submit your claim on your behalf so you only pay the portion not covered by your plan. If your insurer is not listed, call us and we will confirm whether we can bill them directly.

Can I be seen today for an eye emergency?

Often, yes. Urgent eye care is a regular part of our practice. For red eyes, eye pain, sudden flashing lights or new floaters, conjunctivitis, a foreign body on the surface of the eye, a contact lens stuck in your eye or broken glasses, call us and we will let you know right away whether we can see you today. For sudden loss of vision, a penetrating eye injury, a chemical burn or severe pain, go directly to a hospital emergency department or call 811.

How long does it take to get my glasses?

Our lab is on site. For most prescriptions a complete pair is ready in under an hour and you leave with them the same day. More complex prescriptions take longer, and we give you a straight timeline before we start.

Which frame brands do you carry?

Moscot, Oliver Peoples, Ahlem, Matsuda, Masunaga, Lindberg, Garrett Leight and Ray-Ban among others, along with vintage collections. And one frame that comes from us: Toulch Rimless, the rimless eyewear we designed and manufacture, winner of the 2025 SILMO d'Or. For lenses, we are certified providers of premium lenses from Essilor, Nikon and Transitions. For contact lenses we keep the major brands, including Acuvue and Ciba Total One. Between the Japanese houses, the vintage and our own designs there is plenty to go through, and the best way to find yours is to try them on.

Where exactly are you, and what are your hours?

At 3750 Saint-Laurent Boulevard, Montreal (H2W 1X6), at the corner of Pine Avenue in the Plateau Mont-Royal, steps from Schwartz's. We are open Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., until 6 p.m. on Thursdays, and closed on Sundays.
